As soon as autumn moves toward wintertime and outside temperatures descend, some windows in your house may look a bit hazy. Depending on where the fog transpires, the problem may be as simple as excess condensation forming due to indoor and outdoor temperature variation or because the window seal is failing. Foggy glass is not only an eyesore, but it also can cost you money in energy if not corrected. If you see window fog, it’s time to take action.

Window leaks can be a severe problem. Often, the caulk or sealant around the window has cracked. When this happens, rain and snow can infiltrate the house. The solution is peeling out the old caulking and replacing it with new window caulking.

Leaks at the top of the window can be a hint of errors made during installation. The flashing may have been installed incorrectly during installation or may have never been installed, to begin with. We may have to remove the siding and check the house wrap and flashing tape to be safe in some situations. If you have vinyl windows, we may have to check for blocked drain holes at the frame. The holes allow water to escape the structure of the window.
